UNIOSUN Alumni Presidential Candidate, Idris Adetunji, Speaks Out Against Electoral Committee: Calls for Justice and Equity

In the unfolding drama of the UNIOSUN Alumni Association Elections, one voice rings out with a cry for justice and equity. Idris Adetunji, popularly known as Ijoba, a doctoral candidate at the Alma Mater, Osun State university and a seasoned participant in the association’s affairs, has emerged as a vocal critic of the electoral committee’s integrity and transparency.

Idris Adetunji’s journey within the UNIOSUN Alumni Association spans years of dedicated service and unwavering commitment. Having contested the presidential position three times previously in 2016, 2018, and 2021, and still in the running for the 2024 elections, his passion for the association’s welfare is undeniable.

In a candid conversation with Adetunji, he expressed deep-seated concerns about the conduct of past elections and the apparent violations of the association’s constitution. He alleges that non-members were allowed to participate in previous elections, a claim that raises serious questions about the integrity of the electoral process under the previous committee chaired by Arisilejoye Azeez. According to him “I wrote petitions against the electoral commitee and Oris In 2021 with evidences but they refused to acknowleged my petitions”. The current electoral commitee is chaired by the same Arisilejoye Azeez. The petition is attached below.

In a short chat with him he had this to say “As for me I don’t trust the electoral commitee, I don’t believe in them that they can conduct free and fair elections because of the past. Their character is questionable and I believe they are suporting a particular candidate, Binukonu Family, headed by Basit Bashorun Olokuta and this Basit Olokuta has been alleged of diversion of association funds to personal accounts, they have spent more than 13 million naira without any tangible achievement to show for it. So what I see in them is this, they don’t want new people to emerge so that their secret will not be exposed. Thats what they are doing, that why they want their member there. Even the BOT is compromised, they deviate all the time, if they say this today, tomorrow they will change it. Is it this ones we will follow? The composition of the last NEC is comprised of individuals using the associations funds to do business.”.

Apparently, Adetunji’s scathing criticism extends beyond the electoral committee to encompass the Board of Trustees (BOT), whom he accuses of constant deviation from their responsibilities and questionable use of association funds for personal gain. He highlights the composition of the last National Executive Council (NEC), which he claims is comprised of individuals using association funds for personal business ventures.

In the context of previous developments and allegations of conspiracy and manipulation within the electoral process, Adetunji’s words carry significant weight. His accusations of bias and corruption within the electoral committee and the BOT resonate with the concerns raised by other stakeholders about the integrity of the electoral process.

Adetunji’s call for liberation from the perceived clutches of the Binukonu Family and their allies strikes at the heart of the struggle for accountability and transparency within the UNIOSUN Alumni Association. His campaign promises to promote these values align closely with the broader narrative of demanding fairness and justice in the electoral process.

As the UNIOSUN Alumni Association Elections approach, Adetunji’s voice serves as a rallying cry for change and reform. Whether his message resonates with the broader alumni community remains to be seen, but one thing is clear – his determination to challenge the status quo and fight for a more accountable and transparent association is unwavering.

Unveiling the Binukonu Caucus (Part 1): Unraveling Allegations of Conspiracy in the UNIOSUN Alumni Association Elections

In the lead-up to the UNIOSUN Alumni Association Elections, whispers of intrigue and clandestine machinations swirl within the alumni community. At the center of this swirling tempest lies the enigmatic “Binukonu Caucus” – a shadowy group purportedly wielding significant influence over the electoral process.

The tale of the Binukonu Caucus is shrouded in mystery, yet its connections to both the Board of Trustees (BOT) and the electoral committee are undeniable. Allegations abound of members of this elusive group holding positions of power within the BOT, while others are said to have infiltrated the ranks of the electoral committee.

The crux of the matter lies in the possibility of a concerted effort to manipulate the electoral process to install a president from amongst the ranks of the Binukonu Caucus. While such claims may seem far-fetched to some, multiple sources have come forward with allegations of collusion and scheming aimed at securing victory for their preferred candidate.

Perhaps most concerning is the revelation that a majority of the electoral committee members were “appointed” in a controversial Annual General Meeting (AGM), where dissenting voices were drowned out by the sheer force of numbers from the Binukonu Caucus. This has resulted in at least 50% of the electoral committee being comprised of individuals allegedly affiliated with the group, raising serious questions about the fairness and impartiality of the electoral process.

As the alumni community grapples with these unsettling revelations, the specter of conspiracy looms large over the upcoming elections. The mere possibility of a select group wielding undue influence over the democratic process strikes at the very heart of the principles of fairness, transparency, and accountability that should underpin any election.

Only time will tell whether the allegations of conspiracy are mere whispers in the wind or the harbinger of a storm that threatens to engulf the integrity of our beloved alma mater’s democratic traditions.

Olokuta’s candidacy sparks a contentious debate among alumni, reminiscent of past controversies that have surrounded his involvement in the associations affairs. As a former General Secretary who was alleged to have used association funds in his account, originally intended for an association program and like others in his NEC may have only returned it when a petition was written to the Board of Trustees. Olokuta has challenged the Board of Trustees in court, his decision to run again raises valid concerns about his commitment to the principles of accountability and ethical leadership as his lawsuit has not exonerated him from the allegations in the petition till date.

But the issues at hand extend beyond Olokuta’s candidacy. The very process of the alumni elections is called into question, with allegations of disenfranchisement casting a shadow over the integrity of the electoral committee based on . Oriola’s Lawsuit and Its Ripple Effects: Examining the Credibility of the Osun State University Alumni Elections

As the Osun State University Alumni Elections draw near, the specter of controversy looms large over the candidacy of one individual: Oriola. With a pending lawsuit against the individuals acting as the Board of Trustees (BOT), Oriola’s journey to the elections has been fraught with legal battles and procedural hurdles.

The crux of the matter lies in Oriola’s lawsuit, which calls into question the legitimacy of the BOT and their actions. Despite rumors of reconciliation between the parties involved, a thorough investigation reveals that the lawsuit remains unresolved, casting a shadow of uncertainty over the electoral process.

Adding fuel to the fire, the electoral committee’s decision to disqualify Oriola raises eyebrows and fuels speculation about the motives behind such a move. The committee cites Oriola’s failure to submit an expression of interest revalidation form as grounds for disqualification, a decision that many view as arbitrary and unfair.

But beyond the intricacies of legal battles and procedural technicalities lies a more profound question: what does Oriola’s disqualification mean for the credibility of the Osun State University Alumni Elections?

At its core, the credibility of any electoral process hinges on the principles of fairness, transparency, and accountability. When candidates are disqualified under questionable circumstances, it erodes trust in the integrity of the electoral process and undermines the legitimacy of the outcomes.

The unresolved lawsuit adds another layer of complexity to an already contentious situation. While rumors of reconciliation may offer a glimmer of hope for a resolution, the fact remains that the lawsuit continues to linger, casting doubt on the legitimacy of the BOT and their actions.

In the face of these challenges, it is imperative that the electoral committee acts with transparency and fairness to uphold the credibility of the elections. Any perception of bias or favoritism only serves to further erode public trust and confidence in the process.

As alumni, we must remain vigilant and demand accountability from our electoral committee. Our alma mater deserves nothing less than a free, fair, and transparent electoral process that honors the principles of democracy and respects the rights of all candidates.

In the end, the credibility of the Osun State University Alumni Elections rests in the hands of its stakeholders. It is up to us to ensure that the integrity of our alma mater is upheld and that our voices are heard loud and clear in the halls of democracy.
